Big News About My Book on American Gun Culture (Light Over Heat #71)

Today’s “Light Over Heat” video has some big news about my book on American gun culture.

Those of you who follow my work closely know that I have been talking about a November 1st deadline to finish the manuscript for my book, Gun Curious. Well, the reason for that deadline is that I found a publisher!!!!! In order to get the book in print by early next summer, I need to get them a clean manuscript to work with ASAP.

This has been a long and arduous, exciting and demoralizing process, as I detail in a Light Over Heat video next week that talks about the sausage-making behind the scenes that went into making Gun Curious a (step closer to being a) reality.

I’m grateful for the efforts of my agent Don Fehr of Trident Media Group who did everything he could to give my book a chance with the New York City gatekeepers of the publishing world. He had an uphill battle to fight on behalf of a book that tries to give a nuanced view of gun ownership in a moderate key in a world addicted to heat over light.

And I am grateful that Lisa Camp, Executive Editor of McFarland & Co. Publishers, reached out to me just when I was about to give up. The Exposit Books imprint of McFarland will be publishing my book.

After I complete the book manuscript I am going to cut back on my writing in favor of working on building a solid platform from which to launch this book next year. I’m hoping I can count on those readers who have supported me throughout this process and also bring new potential readers on board, whether gun enthusiasts, gun skeptics, or gun curious.

Stay tuned for much more in the months to come.
